Possible Causes

Grease buildup on heater and inner surfaces, Overfilled basket with fatty foods, Drip tray not cleaned, Cooking at too high a temperature

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If heavy smoke appears, unplug the unit and carefully open windows. Do not pour water into the hot fryer.

Steps to reduce smoke:

  • Clean thoroughly: Once cool, remove the basket and drawer. Clean them with warm soapy water. Wipe the interior, especially around the heater, with a damp cloth.
  • Remove baked-on grease: Use a non-abrasive sponge and a degreaser suitable for kitchen appliances to clean the heater guard and upper interior.
  • Avoid overfilling: Do not exceed the maximum fill line in the basket. Cook fatty foods in smaller batches.
  • Lower temperature: Reduce cooking temperature slightly for very fatty items like bacon or sausages to minimise splatter and smoke.
  • Check drip tray: Ensure any integrated drip tray or bottom of the drawer is clean and free of old oil.
