Possible Causes
Excess oil or fatty foods at high temperature,Grease buildup on heating element and chamber walls,Using non-approved liners or parchment blocking airflow,Food particles stuck in drip tray
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If heavy smoke appears, unplug the unit and carefully remove it from under cabinets. Allow it to cool before cleaning.
Steps to reduce smoke:
- 1. Clean thoroughly: After cooling, remove basket and drawer. Wash them with hot soapy water. Wipe the interior walls and bottom pan with a degreasing cleaner on a cloth. Carefully wipe around (not on top of) the heating element to remove grease.
- 2. Remove burnt residue: Check the drip tray and corners for charred food pieces and remove them.
- 3. Adjust cooking method: For very fatty foods (bacon, sausages), reduce temperature by 25–50°F (10–20°C) and empty grease from the drawer halfway through cooking.
- 4. Use proper liners: Only use perforated parchment liners designed for air fryers, and never cover the entire bottom in a way that blocks airflow.
- 5. Check ventilation: Ensure the rear exhaust is not blowing directly against a wall or cabinet, which can trap smoke.
