Possible Causes
Built-up grease on heating element, Overfilled drip tray, Cooking high-fat foods at too high a temperature, Food particles stuck on heater guard
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you see flames, unplug the unit and keep the door closed. Do not use water on grease fires.
- Stop and cool: Turn off and unplug the fryer. Allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- Clean thoroughly: Remove baskets, racks, and drip tray. Clean all components with hot soapy water. Wipe the interior cavity and heater guard to remove grease.
- Check drip tray level: Ensure the drip tray is not overfilled with oil or grease. Empty and clean regularly.
- Adjust cooking method: For high-fat foods (bacon, sausages, fatty meats), reduce temperature by 25–50°F and use the drip tray to catch grease. Avoid overcrowding.
- Inspect heater guard: Remove any burnt-on food from the heater guard using a non-metallic scraper to prevent future smoking.
