Possible Causes
Grease buildup on heating element and cavity, Using too much oil or fatty foods, Blocked exhaust vents, Drip tray not installed or overflowing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If heavy smoke appears, stop the cycle, unplug the unit, and open windows for ventilation.
Steps to reduce smoke:
- 1. Clean thoroughly: After cooling, remove the basket, drawer, and any drip tray. Clean all removable parts with warm soapy water. Wipe the interior cavity and around the heating element with a damp cloth (do not soak).
- 2. Inspect heating element: Look for baked-on grease on the heating element. Gently wipe with a damp cloth; for stubborn spots, use a non-abrasive sponge once the element is completely cool.
- 3. Check vents: Ensure rear and top exhaust vents are clear of grease and dust. Clean with a soft brush or vacuum.
- 4. Adjust cooking practices: Avoid adding extra oil to already fatty foods. Use the drip tray if provided, and empty it between batches.
