Possible Causes
Grease and food residue on heater and cavity walls, Charred food stuck under basket or tray, Melted plastic from previous misuse
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug and cool the unit before cleaning.
- Deep clean: Remove basket and tray. Soak them in warm soapy water and scrub off all residue. Wipe the interior cavity, including the ceiling and corners, with a non-abrasive sponge.
- Clean heater carefully: With a soft brush, gently remove carbonized grease from the heating element. Do not soak or spray water directly on the element.
- Run burn-off cycle: After cleaning, run the air fryer empty at a moderate temperature (e.g., 350°F/175°C) for 10–15 minutes to burn off remaining odors. Ensure good ventilation.
- Inspect for melted parts: Look for any deformed plastic components near the heater. Replace any damaged parts to eliminate ongoing odor.
