Excessive Smoke / Grease Accumulation
Nuwave air fryer produces excessive smoke during cooking, even with relatively dry foods.

Possible Causes
Grease buildup on heating element, dirty basket and drip pan, using too much oil, cooking at too high a temperature for the food
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: If heavy smoke appears, stop the cooking cycle, unplug the unit, and open windows for ventilation. Allow the air fryer to cool before cleaning.
Step-by-step checks:
- Clean basket and pan: Remove and thoroughly wash the basket and drip pan with warm soapy water to remove grease.
- Clean interior surfaces: Once cool, wipe the interior walls and the area around the heating element with a damp cloth. Do not soak or spray the element directly.
- Reduce oil: Use minimal oil when air frying; excess oil can splatter onto the heater and smoke.
- Lower temperature: For fatty foods like bacon or sausages, cook at a slightly lower temperature and for a longer time to reduce splatter.
- Use drip tray correctly: Ensure the drip pan is properly installed to catch grease and not overflowing.
Note: A small amount of smoke can be normal when cooking high-fat foods, but persistent heavy smoke indicates cleaning is needed.
