Possible Causes

Grease buildup on heater guard and walls, Overfilled basket with fatty foods, Using too much added oil, Drippings contacting exposed heating element

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: If heavy smoke appears, stop the cooking cycle, unplug the unit, and open windows for ventilation.

  • Reduce oil: Use only a light coating of oil on foods. Do not pour oil directly into the basket.
  • Clean thoroughly: After cooling, remove the basket and tray. Clean the tray, basket, heater guard, and interior walls with degreaser and a non-abrasive sponge.
  • Add water under tray: For very fatty foods, place a small amount of water in the bottom of the basket under the crisper tray to catch drippings and reduce smoke (if allowed by your model's manual).
  • Cook in smaller batches: Avoid overloading the basket, which can cause more grease to contact hot surfaces.
