Possible Causes
Grease buildup on heating element, Overfilled basket with fatty foods, Drip tray not installed, Cooking at too high a temperature
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If heavy smoke appears, unplug the unit and open windows. Do not pour water into a hot air fryer.
Steps to reduce smoke:
- Clean thoroughly: Once cool, clean the basket, drawer, and interior surfaces to remove grease. Pay special attention to the area around the heating element.
- Use drip tray: Ensure the drip tray or crisper plate is installed to catch fat and keep it away from the heater.
- Adjust cooking method: For very fatty foods, reduce temperature slightly and extend cooking time. Empty excess fat from the drawer halfway through cooking if needed.
- Avoid aerosol oils: Some sprays can create more smoke; use a light brush of high‑smoke‑point oil instead.
Warning: Persistent smoke even after cleaning may indicate grease inside the heater cavity; deeper cleaning or service may be required.
