Possible Causes
Grease buildup in drip tray and under basket, Cooking very fatty foods at high temperature, Oil pooled on bottom of pan, Blocked exhaust vents reducing airflow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If smoke becomes heavy, unplug the unit and open windows. Avoid opening the basket directly under smoke alarms.
- Clean thoroughly: Remove the basket and pan. Clean all grease from the pan, basket, and drip areas with warm soapy water. Wipe the interior surfaces and heater guard.
- Reduce oil: Do not add extra oil directly into the pan. Lightly coat food instead.
- Lower temperature: For very fatty foods (bacon, sausages), cook at a lower temperature and longer time to reduce splatter and smoke.
- Check vents: Ensure rear and top vents are not blocked. Clean any grease film from vent openings.
- Use drip tray correctly: Make sure the pan is properly seated to catch drips and that no foil is blocking airflow.
