Possible Causes
Heavy grease buildup on heating element, Food particles stuck near heater, Oil-soaked residue on fan guard, Incorrect use of high-fat foods without cleaning
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Immediately turn off and unplug the air fryer. Keep the basket closed and do not add water if you suspect grease ignition; smother flames by keeping the unit closed.
Steps after unit is safe and cool:
- Thorough cleaning: Once completely cool, remove the basket and pan. Clean them with hot soapy water to remove all grease.
- Clean heating area: Using a damp cloth and mild detergent, carefully wipe the area around the heating element and fan guard to remove baked-on grease. Do not soak the interior or spray directly onto the element.
- Inspect for damage: Check the heating element and surrounding plastic for signs of scorching or melting. If components are deformed or charred, they should be replaced.
- Avoid excess oil: When cooking high-fat foods, empty excess grease from the pan between batches and clean regularly to prevent buildup.
Warning: Persistent burning smell after cleaning may indicate damaged insulation or wiring; discontinue use and have the unit inspected by a technician.
