Gaggia
Over-Extraction / Excessive Brew Temperature
Coffee tastes burnt or too bitter
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Grind too fine, Coffee dose too high, Brew temperature set too high, Stale or dark-roast beans, Limescale affecting temperature control
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Adjustments:
- Grind setting: Adjust the grinder one or two steps coarser while it is running.
- Strength: Reduce the coffee strength/dose setting.
- Temperature: If your Gaggia model allows, lower the brew temperature setting in the menu.
Maintenance:
- Descale the machine to ensure accurate temperature control.
- Use fresh, medium roast beans instead of very dark roasts, which can taste burnt more easily.
If the taste issue persists, the temperature sensor or control algorithm may be faulty and should be checked by a service center.
