Possible Causes
Blocked flowmeter due to scale, Flowmeter electrical failure, Clogged hydraulic circuit between tank and pump, Air lock in water circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the machine OFF and unplug it before removing any panels. Allow the boiler/thermoblock to cool for at least 30 minutes.
Step 1 – Basic reset and air purge
- Remove the water tank, empty it, rinse, and refill with fresh water.
- Firmly reinsert the tank, ensuring it is fully seated on its valve.
- Plug in and turn ON the machine.
- Run several hot-water cycles (or rinse cycles) without a capsule to purge air from the circuit. If the pump is noisy and no water flows, keep trying short bursts (5–10 seconds) to clear air.
Step 2 – Descale the hydraulic circuit
- Fill the tank with a manufacturer-approved descaling solution mixed according to the instructions.
- Start the descaling program if your Lavazza model has one; otherwise, run repeated hot-water extractions until the tank is empty.
- Let the solution sit in the machine for 10–15 minutes, then continue flushing until the tank is empty.
- Rinse the tank thoroughly and run 2–3 full tanks of clean water through the machine.
Step 3 – Check flowmeter and hoses (advanced)
- Unplug the machine and remove the top cover (usually Torx or Phillips screws under the water tank and drip tray).
- Locate the flowmeter: a small plastic disc with two hose connections, typically between the tank outlet and the pump.
- Inspect hoses for kinks, pinches, or visible blockages; straighten or replace as needed.
- Disconnect the hoses from the flowmeter (have a towel ready) and check for debris or scale; flush with warm water.
- Check the electrical connector to the flowmeter for corrosion or loose fit; reseat the connector.
When to stop
- If A1 persists after descaling and hose inspection, the flowmeter’s internal sensor may have failed and should be replaced.
- If you are not comfortable opening the machine or measuring signals, contact a qualified technician.
