Possible Causes

Clogged coffee spout or internal coffee outlet, Blocked capsule piercing needles, Excessive scale in thermoblock outlet, Faulty overpressure valve

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the machine. Allow it to cool before working near the brew head.

Step 1 – Clean capsule area and piercing needles

  • Open the capsule compartment and remove any used capsule.
  • Inspect the capsule chamber for coffee residue or foil fragments; wipe with a damp cloth.
  • Use a soft brush or a wooden toothpick to gently clean the piercing needles (top and bottom, depending on model). Do not bend or force the needles.
  • Run a rinse cycle without a capsule to flush debris.

Step 2 – Clean coffee spout and internal outlet

  • Remove the coffee spout/nozzle assembly if it is detachable.
  • Soak the spout in warm water with mild detergent for 10–15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
  • Use a small brush or pipe cleaner to clear any internal channels.
  • Reinstall the spout and run several water-only cycles.

Step 3 – Descale the brew circuit

  • Fill the tank with descaling solution as per Lavazza instructions.
  • Run the descaling program or multiple hot-water extractions until the tank is empty.
  • Let the solution sit in the machine for 10 minutes, then flush with at least one full tank of clean water.

Step 4 – Check overpressure valve (advanced)

  • Unplug the machine and remove the top/side cover.
  • Locate the overpressure valve near the pump outlet or thermoblock inlet (small plastic or brass valve with a return hose).
  • Inspect for leaks, cracks, or obvious damage.
  • If the valve is stuck closed or heavily scaled, replacement is recommended rather than cleaning.

When to seek service

  • If A2 persists after thorough cleaning and descaling, the overpressure valve or internal brew block may be defective.
  • Contact a service center if you are not comfortable replacing hydraulic components.
