Possible Causes

Excessive grease buildup in drip tray and bottom, Foil blocking grease drainage, Cooking very fatty meats at high temperature, Wood box too close to dripping grease

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Emergency safety: If you see flames inside the smoker, do not open the door. Turn OFF and unplug the smoker. Keep the door closed to starve the fire of oxygen. Use a Class B or K fire extinguisher if flames escape the cabinet. Never use water on a grease fire.

After the event:

  • 1. Allow full cool-down: Wait until the smoker is completely cool before opening the door.
  • 2. Clean thoroughly: Remove racks, drip pan, and wood box. Scrape and clean all grease from the bottom, walls, and drip tray. Ensure the drain hole (if equipped) is clear.
  • 3. Remove foil obstructions: Do not cover the entire bottom or racks with foil in a way that blocks grease flow.
  • 4. Adjust cooking method: For very fatty meats, cook at lower temperatures and empty the drip pan periodically.

Inspection: After a fire, inspect wiring, insulation, and gaskets for heat damage. Replace any damaged parts before using the smoker again.
