Possible Causes
Overfilled wood chip tray, Restricted exhaust vent, Using resinous or treated wood, Low airflow through cabinet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Avoid opening the door directly into your face; smoke can be irritating.
- Reduce chip load: Fill the wood chip tray only to the recommended level. Overfilling can cause smoldering without proper combustion.
- Check exhaust vent: Ensure the top or rear exhaust vent is fully open and not blocked by foil, grease, or debris.
- Use proper wood: Use only food-safe hardwood chips recommended by GE. Avoid softwoods, treated lumber, or chips with bark and sap.
- Improve airflow: Do not block air inlets or pack food so tightly that air cannot circulate. Leave space between racks and items.
