Steps to diagnose and correct:
- Access the sensor wiring: Remove the rear or side service panel to expose the wiring from the inner temperature probe to the control board.
- Inspect for shorts: Look for melted insulation where the sensor wires pass near the heating element or metal edges. If bare wires are touching each other or the metal cabinet, separate them and wrap with high-temperature electrical tape or replace the damaged harness.
- Check the sensor body: From inside the cabinet, inspect the probe for signs of overheating, cracking, or deformation. Replace if damaged.
- Test resistance: With the sensor unplugged from the board, measure resistance across the two leads. A reading near 0 Ω indicates a shorted sensor. Replace the sensor if shorted or if resistance is far outside Landmann’s specified range.
- Dry out moisture: If the connector area is wet from cleaning or weather, dry thoroughly with a cloth and allow the smoker to air dry for several hours before retesting.
- Reassemble and test: Reconnect the sensor, secure wiring away from hot surfaces, reinstall the panel, and test at a low temperature setting.
When to seek service: If a known-good sensor still triggers E2, the control board’s sensor circuit is likely defective and the main control board should be replaced by a qualified technician.
