Possible Causes
Wood chip tray not making good contact with heating element, Chip tray overfilled or chips too wet, Low operating temperature, Damaged or warped chip tray
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Use heat-resistant gloves when adjusting the chip tray during operation.
Steps to improve smoke production:
- Check chip tray placement: Ensure the Landmann chip tray is fully inserted and seated directly above the heating element as designed.
- Use dry hardwood chips: Avoid soaking chips excessively; slightly damp is fine, but dripping-wet chips can smolder poorly.
- Do not overfill: Fill the tray only to the recommended level. Overfilling restricts airflow and slows combustion.
- Inspect tray condition: If the tray is warped and no longer sits flat over the element, replace it so heat transfers properly.
- Increase temperature initially: Start the smoker at a higher temperature for the first 15–20 minutes to get chips smoking, then reduce to your cooking temperature.
