Possible Causes

Probe cable damaged, Probe tip filled with moisture, Probe wire pulled from handle, Probe jack contaminated with grease

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Avoid touching hot metal surfaces when handling the probe during a cook.

  • Inspect cable and tip: Look for kinks, cuts, or melted spots on the cable. Check that the probe tip is not bent or cracked.
  • Clean probe and jack: Wipe the probe with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then dry. Clean the jack on the control panel with a dry cotton swab to remove grease.
  • Test in ice water: Place the probe tip in a glass of ice water (without submerging the cable connection). It should read near 32°F (0°C). Large errors indicate a bad probe.
  • Replace probe: Install a new OEM Masterbuilt meat probe if readings remain inaccurate.
