Smokin-It
Insufficient Wood Smoldering
Smoker produces very little or no smoke even though it heats

Possible Causes
Wood chunks too wet or too large, Wood box not contacting heating element properly, Element not cycling long enough at low temps, Excessive airflow cooling wood box
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Use heat-resistant gloves when adjusting the wood box during or after a cook.
Steps to improve smoke production:
- Use proper wood: Use dry, seasoned wood chunks recommended by Smokin-It. Avoid water-soaking the wood; damp wood can delay or prevent smoldering.
- Check wood box placement: Ensure the stainless wood box is fully seated in its track and positioned directly above or adjacent to the heating element as designed.
- Chunk size: Use smaller chunks if smoke is minimal; very large pieces can take longer to ignite.
- Temperature setting: At very low set temperatures, the element may not stay on long enough to ignite the wood. Start the cook at a slightly higher temperature until smoke is established, then reduce if desired.
- Limit door opening: Frequent door opening can cool the wood box and interrupt smoldering. Keep the door closed as much as possible.
