Possible Causes

Insulation breakdown in Nissan EVSE charge cable, Moisture ingress in wallbox enclosure, Faulty internal ground fault current sensor on Nissan control board, Ground-neutral bonding issue in supply circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not continue trying to charge until the ground fault is identified. Turn OFF the breaker and lock it out if possible.

  • Check for visible moisture: Inspect the Nissan wallbox housing and cable for signs of water entry, condensation, or corrosion. If the unit is outdoors, verify the weatherproof cover and cable gland are intact.
  • Inspect the cable: Look along the entire length of the Nissan EVSE cable for cuts, abrasions, or crushed sections. If any copper is visible or the jacket is deeply damaged, the cable must be replaced.
  • Verify outlet/feeder wiring: For plug-in models, inspect the receptacle for burn marks or looseness. For hardwired units, have a licensed electrician verify correct grounding and that neutral is not bonded downstream of the main panel.
  • Dry the unit: If moisture is suspected, leave the breaker OFF and allow the unit to dry for 24 hours in a dry environment. Do not use heat guns directly on the enclosure.
  • Reset and retest: After drying and visual checks, restore power and attempt a short test charge. If E02 reappears immediately, the internal ground fault sensor or control board is likely defective.

Persistent E02 faults require professional diagnosis with insulation resistance testing. Do not bypass or defeat the ground fault protection.
