How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Disconnect power before removing any internal panels. Edges of metal panels and evaporator fins can be sharp; wear cut-resistant gloves.

Steps to resolve E2:

  • 1. Access the evaporator area: Empty the freezer shelves near the back panel. Remove the rear interior panel (often held by screws or clips) to expose the evaporator coil and fan.
  • 2. Locate the evaporator sensor: The evaporator NTC is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing or embedded in a small plastic housing attached to the coil.
  • 3. Visual inspection: Check if the sensor has fallen off the coil or is hanging loose. Ensure it is firmly clipped in place and not encased in heavy ice. If there is heavy ice, fully defrost the unit (leave unplugged with doors open and towels in place for several hours).
  • 4. Check wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the harness connector. Look for chafed insulation, broken wires, or corroded connectors. Reseat the connector at the evaporator and at the main control PCB.
  • 5. Test the sensor: With the freezer unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to the cabinet sensor values; if it reads open, shorted, or wildly different from expected NTC values, the sensor is defective.
  • 6. Replace the sensor: Install a new evaporator NTC temperature sensor, clipping it securely to the coil in the same position. Avoid bending the aluminum fins excessively.
  • 7. Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel, restore power, and monitor for several hours. The E2 code should clear automatically once the control detects valid readings.

Note: If the sensor tests good but E2 persists, the main control PCB may be faulty and should be evaluated by a technician.
