Possible Causes
Misadjusted mechanical limit cams on BFT operator, Faulty magnetic or optical encoder on motor, Broken encoder wiring harness, Incorrect limit learning procedure or corrupted travel limits in memory
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before adjusting limit cams or accessing the motor encoder.
- Check mechanical limits: On BFT operators with mechanical limit switches, open the cover and locate the limit cams on the drive shaft. Verify that the cams are not loose and that they actuate the microswitches at the correct open and closed positions.
- Re-learn travel limits: Follow the BFT programming procedure (usually via the control board buttons) to reset and re-learn the open and close positions. Ensure the door moves freely during this process.
- Inspect encoder wiring: For models with an encoder, check the small multi-core cable from the motor to the control board. Look for cuts, pulled connectors, or corrosion at the plug.
- Test encoder signal (advanced): With a multimeter or oscilloscope, verify that the encoder outputs pulses when the motor shaft is rotated. If no pulses are present, the encoder is defective.
If re-learning limits and securing cams does not clear E05, replace the encoder or motor assembly as specified by BFT.
