How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Repeatedly resetting a tripping GFCI without finding the cause is dangerous. Work only with power OFF and use a multimeter if you are qualified.

  • Visual inspection: With power OFF, open the equipment bay and inspect the control pack, heater, and pumps for signs of water leaks, burn marks, or melted insulation.
  • Isolate components: Disconnect non-essential loads one at a time (ozone generator, blower, auxiliary pumps, lighting harness) from the control board. After each disconnection, reset the GFCI and see if it holds. This helps identify the faulty component.
  • Heater test: Disconnect the heater leads from the control board. If the breaker stops tripping, the heater element is likely shorted to ground and must be replaced.
  • Pump test: Disconnect each pump in turn and test. A pump that causes tripping when connected likely has internal winding or moisture issues.
  • Do not bypass GFCI: Never bypass or replace the GFCI with a standard breaker; this removes critical protection.

Once the faulty component is identified, replace it with a Bullfrog-approved part. If you cannot isolate the fault, contact a professional spa technician.
