Ice Thickness Sensor / Probe Failure
E3 error; ice maker may freeze water but fails to harvest ice or stops mid-cycle.

Possible Causes
Faulty ice thickness probe, Mineral buildup on thickness sensor, Misaligned sensor arm, Damaged harness between sensor and control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off and unplug the ice maker. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.
- Locate the thickness sensor: On Westinghouse undercounter and freestanding ice makers, the ice thickness is often measured by a metal probe or plastic sensor arm near the evaporator plate or grid.
- Clean mineral deposits: Hard water scale can insulate the sensor. Use a manufacturer-approved ice maker cleaner or a 1:1 solution of white vinegar and warm water. Gently scrub the probe and surrounding area with a soft brush, then rinse thoroughly.
- Check alignment: Ensure the sensor arm or probe is positioned as shown in the service diagram—typically just above the evaporator plate. Bend only slightly if needed; do not kink or stress the mount.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the control board. Confirm the connector is tight and wires are not broken or chafed.
- Test and replace: If the sensor is a simple switch type, test continuity while moving the arm. If readings are erratic or open when it should be closed, replace the ice thickness sensor/probe.
- Run a test cycle: Restore power and run a cleaning or test cycle to confirm the E3 code is cleared.
