Steam or liquid spurts forcefully from the steam release valve during pressure cooking.

Possible Causes

Cooking starchy foods (rice, beans, pasta) with too little water, Overfilling above max line, Using oil-heavy or thick sauces under pressure, Anti-block shield partially clogged

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Keep face and hands away from the steam vent. Do not cover the valve.

  • Reduce fill level: For foamy foods, fill only to the recommended level (often no more than half full for beans and grains).
  • Use more liquid: Add additional water or broth to dilute starch concentration.
  • Clean anti-block shield: After cooling and depressurizing, remove and clean the anti-block shield and steam valve parts.
  • Natural release: For foamy dishes, allow pressure to drop naturally instead of quick release to reduce spurting.

If spurting continues even with proper use, inspect and replace the steam release valve assembly if worn or damaged.
