Possible Causes
Food stuck to bottom of inner pot, Not enough thin liquid in recipe, Inner pot not making full contact with heating plate, Damaged nonstick coating causing hotspots
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the cooker and allow pressure to release naturally or via the quick-release method as appropriate. Use caution when opening the lid.
- Check for scorching: Remove the inner pot and inspect the bottom for burnt food. Clean thoroughly with non-abrasive tools.
- Verify pot fit: Ensure the inner pot is not warped and sits flat on the heating plate. A warped pot can cause uneven heating and trigger burn detection.
- Adjust cooking method: For thick sauces or tomato-based dishes, deglaze the pot after sautéing by adding liquid and scraping the bottom before starting pressure mode.
- Increase liquid: Add additional broth or water to meet the minimum volume recommended in the manual.
- Test with water: Run a short pressure cycle with only water. If bURN does not appear, the issue is recipe-related. If it does, inspect the heating plate and sensor for damage.
- Replacement: If the inner pot's nonstick coating is heavily damaged or the pot is warped, replace the nonstick inner pot with a genuine Crock-Pot part.
