Possible Causes

Thick or starchy food stuck to bottom of inner pot, Insufficient liquid for selected program, Using Sauté or Brown too long before pressure cooking, Temperature sensor detecting localized burning

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the cooker and allow it to cool enough to handle safely. Use oven mitts when removing the inner pot.

  • Remove food: Open the lid carefully (if not under pressure). Remove the inner pot and transfer food to another container.
  • Clean inner pot: Soak the pot in warm soapy water to loosen burnt-on food. Use a non-scratch scrubber to clean the bottom thoroughly.
  • Inspect heating plate: Once cool, check the heating plate inside the cooker for spills or burnt residue. Wipe gently with a damp cloth; do not pour water into the cooker base.
  • Adjust recipe: For thick sauces, chili, or starchy dishes, add more liquid and avoid filling above the recommended maximum. Consider using the Slow Cook mode instead of high-pressure for very thick foods.
  • Retry with water test: Add 2–3 cups of water to the clean inner pot and run a short pressure cycle. If HOT does not appear, the issue was likely food-related.
  • Persistent HOT: If HOT appears even with plain water, the temperature sensor may be misreading. In that case, the main temperature sensor (NTC) or control board may require professional diagnosis and replacement.
