Daewoo Excess Foaming / Inadequate Headspace

Water or starchy liquid boiling over from the steam release valve during pressure cooking

Possible Causes

Overfilled inner pot, Cooking foamy foods without oil, Blocked anti-block shield, Incorrect menu selection for food type

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not cover the steam release valve. Keep face and hands away from venting steam.

  • Check fill level: Ensure the inner pot is not filled above the MAX line, and for beans, grains, or foamy foods, do not exceed 1/2–2/3 full as per Daewoo instructions.
  • Use oil for foamy foods: Add a small amount of cooking oil when preparing starchy foods like rice or beans to reduce foaming.
  • Clean anti-block shield: Remove and clean the anti-block shield under the lid to ensure foam can drain back and not clog the vent.
  • Select correct program: Use the specific Rice/Grain or Soup program rather than generic high-pressure modes when cooking foamy items.

If boil-over continues at correct fill levels, inspect and replace the anti-block shield or steam release valve if they are damaged.
