Possible Causes
Thick or starchy food on bottom, Not enough liquid, Inner pot bottom heavily scratched or warped, Food blocking temperature sensor contact
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Cancel the program and allow pressure to drop before opening.
- 1. Inspect contents: Stir and check for thick or burnt food at the bottom. Add more liquid and scrape the bottom clean.
- 2. Use pot-in-pot method: For very thick dishes (cheese sauces, chili, pasta bakes), cook them in a smaller oven-safe dish placed on a trivet inside the Instant Pot with water underneath.
- 3. Check inner pot condition: If the bottom is heavily scratched, pitted, or warped, replace the pot to improve heat distribution.
- 4. Clean sensor area: Remove the pot and wipe the heating plate and center sensor to remove any residue.
- 5. If 'Burn' occurs with simple recipes and adequate liquid: The temperature sensor may be misreading and should be evaluated by a technician.
