Possible Causes
Insufficient liquid in inner pot, Food too thick or scorched on bottom, Blocked heat transfer between pot and sensor, Warped inner pot bottom
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the cooker and allow pressure to release naturally if it has built up. Do not force the lid open.
- Check liquid level: Ensure you are using at least the minimum liquid specified in the manual (typically 1–1.5 cups). Very thick sauces or starch-heavy dishes can trigger overheat.
- Deglaze the pot: Remove food, then add a cup of water and scrape the bottom with a non-metal utensil to remove any stuck-on food. Burnt residue can cause hot spots and overheat.
- Inspect inner pot: Check that the bottom of the stainless-steel inner pot is flat and not heavily warped or domed. Replace the pot if it is deformed.
- Clean heating plate: With the unit unplugged, wipe the heating plate and sensor area clean and dry. Remove any burnt-on food or discoloration that could affect heat transfer.
- Retry with adjusted recipe: Add more liquid, avoid thickening agents until after pressure cooking, and stir well before starting. If C5 persists with adequate liquid and a clean pot, the bottom sensor may be misreading and require replacement.
