Possible Causes

Inner pot too hot from previous cycle, Insufficient liquid in pot, Starch or food stuck to bottom causing hot spots, Faulty temperature sensor calibration

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Use oven mitts when handling a hot inner pot. Steam can cause burns.

  • Allow cooling time: Remove the inner pot carefully and set it on a heat-safe surface. Let the cooker base cool for 15–20 minutes with the lid open.
  • Deglaze the pot: If food is stuck to the bottom, add a cup of water and gently scrape with a non-metallic utensil to remove burnt-on residue. Clean and dry the pot.
  • Add sufficient liquid: For pressure cooking, ensure you meet the minimum liquid requirement specified in the Nesco manual (typically at least 1–2 cups).
  • Restart program: Once cooled and cleaned, reinstall the pot with proper liquid and restart the desired program.
  • Sensor issues: If "HOT" appears immediately on a cool unit, the temperature sensor or control board may be faulty and require service.

Warning: Do not add cold water directly into a very hot empty pot; the sudden temperature change can warp the pot.
