Possible Causes
Cooking starchy foods without enough water, Anti-block shield clogged with residue, Steam release valve partially blocked, Overfilled inner pot
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Keep hands and face away from the steam release. Turn off and unplug the cooker if venting is excessive.
- Check fill level: Ensure the pot is not filled above the MAX line, and for beans, rice, or porridge, do not exceed 1/2–2/3 full as per Salter instructions.
- Clean anti-block shield: After depressurizing, remove the anti-block shield from the lid and clean it thoroughly with warm soapy water.
- Clean steam release valve: Remove the valve cap/knob and rinse under running water. Use a brush to clear any deposits.
- Adjust recipes: Add a bit more oil and avoid thickening agents until after pressure cooking to reduce foaming.
Proper cleaning and correct filling usually resolve this issue. Replace the steam release valve if it is damaged or does not move freely.
