E3
Salton Overtemperature / Dry Pot Protection Triggered

E3 error appears during pressure cooking; unit stops heating and may release steam prematurely.

Possible Causes

Insufficient liquid in inner pot causing dry heating, Food stuck and burning on bottom over sensor, Faulty overheat protection sensor on heating plate, Poor contact between inner pot and heating plate

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Allow pressure to release fully and unplug the unit before opening the lid.

  • Check liquid level: Open the lid once safe. Ensure there is at least the minimum recommended liquid (usually 1–2 cups) in the inner pot for pressure programs. Add more liquid if needed.
  • Clean the inner pot bottom: Remove burnt-on food from the bottom of the pot. A thick burnt layer can cause localized overheating over the sensor. Soak and scrub the pot until the surface is smooth and clean.
  • Inspect the heating plate: With the pot removed, check the central heating plate for burnt residue or warping. Wipe clean with a soft damp cloth (unit unplugged) and dry thoroughly.
  • Check pot contact: Ensure the Salton inner pot is not deformed. A warped pot may not sit flat, causing hot spots. Replace the inner pot if the base is bowed or uneven.
  • Test with water only: Add 2–3 cups of water to the pot and run a short pressure or steam program. If E3 does not appear, the issue was likely low liquid or burnt food.

If E3 recurs even with adequate liquid and a clean pot, the overheat sensor or control board may be faulty and should be checked by a service technician.
