Steba
Excessive Foaming / Overfilled Pot
Water or foam spurts out of the steam valve during pressure cooking, making a mess on the countertop.

Possible Causes
Pot filled above maximum line, Cooking foamy foods (e.g., beans, pasta) without enough headspace, Clogged anti-block shield under lid, Starch build-up in steam path
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Keep clear of the steam outlet. Allow pressure to drop before opening the lid.
Steps to reduce spitting and foaming:
- 1. Check fill level: Ensure the inner pot is not filled above the maximum line, and for foamy foods, do not exceed 1/2 to 2/3 full as recommended by Steba.
- 2. Use oil or anti-foam measures: Add a small amount of cooking oil to reduce foaming, and avoid mixing different starchy ingredients that foam heavily.
- 3. Clean anti-block shield: Remove the anti-block shield from the underside of the lid and clean it thoroughly. Clear any starch from the steam channels.
- 4. Natural release: For very foamy foods, use natural pressure release instead of quick release to minimize spurting.
Persistent spitting despite correct filling and cleaning may indicate a damaged anti-block shield or valve that should be replaced.
