Possible Causes
Heavy grease build-up on cavity walls and elements, Spilled food on base or grill tray, Incorrect cookware causing spillage, New oven protective oils burning off
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure good kitchen ventilation and avoid inhaling smoke. Turn off the oven if flames appear.
- Initial burn-in: For new ovens, run an empty cycle at 200–220°C for 30–60 minutes with good ventilation to burn off manufacturing residues.
- Deep clean: Once cool, remove shelves and trays. Clean the cavity, door glass, and elements (if accessible) with a suitable oven cleaner, following product safety instructions.
- Check drip trays: Always use a baking tray under fatty foods to catch drips and prevent them from hitting the elements.
- Avoid foil on base: Do not line the oven base with foil, as this can trap grease and cause smoking.
