Possible Causes
Grease buildup on cavity surfaces, spilled food on elements, new-oven protective oils burning off, incorrect cookware or foil use
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Ensure good kitchen ventilation when burning off residues. Avoid inhaling smoke.
- Initial burn-in: For new Sharp ovens, run an empty bake cycle at 200–230°C (390–450°F) for 30–60 minutes to burn off manufacturing residues, following the user manual.
- Clean interior: Once cool, clean the oven cavity, racks, and door glass with a non-caustic oven cleaner or warm soapy water. Remove heavy grease deposits.
- Check elements: Wipe off any visible grease or food on the elements (when cool). Do not use abrasive tools that can damage the coating.
- Avoid foil on floor: Do not line the oven floor with foil, as it can trap spills and cause smoking and overheating.
