Possible Causes

Grease or food spills on bottom or elements, Cleaning chemicals not fully removed, New oven protective oils burning off, Foil or liners touching elements

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Ensure good kitchen ventilation. Avoid inhaling heavy smoke.

  • Initial burn-in: For new ovens, run an empty bake cycle at 400–450°F for 30–60 minutes to burn off manufacturing residues (follow manual).
  • Clean spills: Once cool, remove racks and clean the oven interior with a non-abrasive cleaner. Pay special attention to the bottom and around elements.
  • Remove foil/liners: Do not place foil directly on the oven bottom or touching elements; remove any such liners.
  • Repeat light bake: After cleaning, run a moderate bake cycle to clear remaining residues.
