Possible Causes
Pellet hopper empty or pellets bridged, Fire pot full of ash restricting combustion, Igniter rod failure, Combustion fan not running
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the grill to Shutdown and unplug it. Allow it to cool completely before working inside.
- Step 1 – Check pellets: Open the hopper and verify it is at least half full with dry, food‑grade hardwood pellets. Break up any pellet bridging (pellets stuck forming an arch) with your hand or a wooden stick.
- Step 2 – Clean fire pot: Remove cooking grates and drip tray. Vacuum out all ash from the fire pot and surrounding area. A clogged fire pot can cause flameouts and ErL.
- Step 3 – Verify igniter operation: With the fire pot exposed, plug in the grill and start it on Smoke. Look into the fire pot (without touching) after 3–5 minutes. You should see the igniter rod glowing red and feel heat. If there is no glow or heat, the ASMOKE hot rod igniter is likely bad.
- Step 4 – Check combustion fan: During startup, listen for the fan. You should hear a steady whirring sound and feel air movement from the exhaust. If the fan is silent or intermittent, inspect the combustion fan wiring at the controller and fan motor.
- Step 5 – Test again: After cleaning and confirming pellets, restart the grill. If ErL returns and there is no ignition, replace the hot rod igniter. If the fan does not run, replace the combustion fan motor.
