Possible Causes
RTD sensor reading too low, Excessive pellet feed from controller, Grease fire under drip tray, Combustion fan stuck on high
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If temperatures are extremely high or you suspect a grease fire, turn the grill off, keep the lid closed, and unplug it. Do not open the lid until the grill has cooled.
- Step 1 – Inspect and clean: Once cool, remove grates and drip tray. Clean all grease from the drip tray, heat diffuser, and grease channel. Vacuum ash from the fire pot.
- Step 2 – Check RTD sensor: Ensure the temperature probe is clean and not touching the grill body or grates. Replace the temperature probe / RTD sensor if damaged.
- Step 3 – Observe pellet feed: During a test run, watch how often pellets drop. If the auger runs almost constantly at low setpoints, the controller may be faulty.
- Step 4 – Verify fan speed: Listen for the combustion fan. If it runs at full speed regardless of setpoint, the controller’s fan output may be stuck.
- Step 5 – Replace controller if needed: If cleaning and a new RTD do not correct overshoot, install a new ASMOKE digital controller.
