Possible Causes

Exposure to moisture and humidity, Lack of seasoning on grates, Ash left in grill absorbing moisture, Damaged high‑temp paint

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Ensure the grill is cool and unplugged before cleaning.

  • Step 1 – Remove loose rust: Use a grill brush or fine steel wool to remove surface rust from grates and interior metal.
  • Step 2 – Clean and dry: Wipe surfaces with a damp cloth, then dry thoroughly.
  • Step 3 – Reseason grates: Apply a thin coat of high‑smoke‑point cooking oil to grates and run the grill at 350°F for 30–45 minutes.
  • Step 4 – Touch up paint: For exterior rust, sand lightly and apply high‑temperature grill paint compatible with ASMOKE finishes.
  • Step 5 – Store properly: Use a grill cover and empty ash after cooks to reduce moisture retention.
