Possible Causes
Excessive grease buildup on drip tray, Foil blocking grease channels, Cooking very fatty foods at high temperature without cleaning, Drip tray not properly positioned
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do NOT unplug the grill while flames are active; instead, close the lid, turn the temperature to OFF if safe to do so, and keep a Class B fire extinguisher nearby. Never use water on a grease fire.
- Smother the fire: Keep the lid closed to starve the fire of oxygen. If flames persist, use a fire extinguisher through the vent or slightly open lid.
- After fire is out: Allow the grill to cool completely before opening and cleaning.
- Clean thoroughly: Remove grates, diffuser, and drip tray. Scrape and clean all grease from the drip tray, grease channels, and bottom of the cook chamber.
- Check drip tray position: Ensure the drip tray is correctly installed and not warped, allowing grease to flow to the drain.
- Prevent recurrence: Clean the drip tray regularly, especially after cooking fatty meats at high temperatures.
