Possible Causes
Excessive grease buildup on drip tray, Cooking fatty meats at high temperature, Foil blocking grease flow, Fire pot overfilled with pellets
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not use water on a grease fire. Keep the lid closed, turn the grill off, and unplug it. Use a Class B fire extinguisher if flames threaten to escape the grill.
- Step 1 – Smother the fire: Keep the lid closed until flames subside. Do not open the lid repeatedly, as this feeds oxygen to the fire.
- Step 2 – Allow full cool‑down: Once the fire is out, leave the grill closed until it is completely cool.
- Step 3 – Deep clean: Remove grates, drip tray, and heat baffle. Scrape and clean all grease from the drip tray, channel, and interior surfaces. Vacuum ash and pellets from the fire pot.
- Step 4 – Prevent recurrence: Line the drip tray with heavy‑duty foil only if it does not block grease flow. Clean the tray regularly, especially after cooking fatty foods like pork shoulder or brisket.
