Possible Causes
Grease buildup causing flare‑ups, RTD temperature probe coated in heavy grease, Control board miscalibration, Excessive pellet feed due to stuck auger relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you see flames above the drip tray, close the lid, turn the grill off, and unplug it. Do not open the lid during a grease fire.
- Step 1 – Clean interior: Once completely cool, remove grates, drip tray, and heat baffle. Scrape and clean grease from the drip tray and channel. Empty the grease bucket.
- Step 2 – Clean RTD probe: Gently wipe the RTD temperature probe on the side wall with a soft cloth to remove baked‑on grease. Do not use abrasive tools that could damage the sensor.
- Step 3 – Verify pellet feed: Observe the auger operation at a low setpoint. If pellets continue feeding excessively even when the set temperature is reached, the control board or auger relay may be stuck and require replacement.
- Step 4 – Test with thermometer: Use an independent oven thermometer to compare actual chamber temperature to the display. If the display is significantly lower than actual, the RTD or control board is misreading and may need replacement.
