Possible Causes
Excessive grease buildup on tray and in bottom, Cooking at high temperatures with dirty grill, Grease tray misaligned exposing open flame, Drain system clogged
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If a grease fire occurs, keep the lid closed, turn the grill off, and disconnect power. Do NOT open the lid until the fire subsides. Use a Class B or K fire extinguisher if needed. Never use water on a grease fire.
- After fire is out and grill is cool: Remove grates, grease tray, and heat shield.
- Deep clean: Scrape and remove all grease from the tray, drip channels, and bottom of the cook chamber. Clean the drain tube and bucket area.
- Verify tray alignment: Reinstall the grease tray in the correct position so it fully covers the firebox and directs grease to the drain.
- Adopt regular cleaning schedule: Clean grease tray and drip system every few cooks, especially before high-temperature cooks.
