Louisiana Grills
Temperature Fluctuation / Unstable Control
Grill temperature swings widely (±50–75°F) around the setpoint during a cook

Possible Causes
Wind affecting exhaust, RTD probe placement or contamination, Controller PID tuning not optimal, Pellets bridging and feeding inconsistently
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Avoid placing the grill where wind can blow directly into the exhaust or intake.
- Step 1 – Shield from wind: Move the grill to a more sheltered location or use a windbreak.
- Step 2 – Clean RTD probe: Remove grease buildup from the probe to improve response time.
- Step 3 – Stir pellets: Occasionally stir pellets in the hopper to prevent bridging and ensure consistent feed.
- Step 4 – Avoid frequent lid opening: Each lid opening causes a temperature drop and controller overcorrection. Use the viewing window or probes instead.
- Step 5 – Firmware/controller update: If available, update the controller firmware or consider upgrading to a newer Louisiana Grills controller with improved temperature algorithms.
