Possible Causes
Excessive grease buildup on drip pan, Drip pan warped or misaligned exposing open flame, Cooking very fatty meats at high temperature, Grease channel clogged causing pooling
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: In case of a grease fire, keep the lid closed, unplug the grill, and use a Class B fire extinguisher if necessary. Never use water.
- 1. After fire is out and grill is cool:
- Remove grates and drip pan.
- Scrape and clean all grease from the drip pan, barrel bottom, and grease channel.
- 2. Inspect drip pan:
- Check for warping that allows direct flame exposure.
- Replace the drip pan/heat diffuser if badly warped or burned through.
- 3. Adjust cooking method:
- For very fatty meats, cook at lower temperatures or use drip pans to catch fat.
- Avoid leaving the grill unattended at high heat.
