Exposure to moisture and weather, Lack of seasoning on cast iron grates, Damaged paint or porcelain coating, Storage without cover
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Wear gloves and eye protection when using wire brushes.
- 1. Clean rust:
- Use a grill brush or fine steel wool to remove loose rust from grates and surfaces.
- 2. Treat grates:
- For cast iron or steel grates, apply a thin coat of high-smoke-point cooking oil and run the grill at 350–400°F for 30–45 minutes to reseason.
- 3. Touch up exterior:
- For chipped paint on the body, lightly sand and apply high-temp grill paint per manufacturer instructions.
- 4. Improve storage:
- Use a Masterbuilt grill cover and store under shelter when not in use.
