Possible Causes
Heavy grease accumulation on drip tray, Cooking fatty meats at high temperature, Blocked grease drain causing pooling, Flare‑up from direct flame contacting grease
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do NOT use water on a grease fire. Keep the lid closed, turn off the grill, and disconnect power. If the fire is out of control, call emergency services.
- Step 1 – Smother the fire: With the lid closed, allow the fire to consume available oxygen. Do not open the lid until flames subside.
- Step 2 – After cooling: Once completely cool, remove grates and drip tray. Scrape and clean all grease from the tray, channel, and lower cabinet.
- Step 3 – Clear drain: Ensure the grease drain and tube are open and flowing freely.
- Step 4 – Prevent recurrence: Line the drip tray with foil if recommended by Monument, and clean regularly, especially after cooking fatty foods.
- Step 5 – Inspect wiring and components: Check for heat damage to wiring, RTD, and other components above the fire. Replace any melted or charred parts.
