Incomplete Combustion
Excessive white smoke and strong raw smoke smell during cook
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Overfilled fire pot, Restricted airflow, Wet pellets, Fan running too slowly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If smoke is backing up into the hopper or out of seams, turn OFF and unplug the grill. Allow it to cool before opening.
Steps:
- Clean fire pot: Remove excess pellets and ash. The pot should have clear air holes and not be heaped with fuel.
- Check fan operation: Confirm the combustion fan runs continuously during cook. Clean blades and replace the motor if weak.
- Use dry pellets: Replace any suspect pellets with a fresh, dry supply.
- Ventilation: Ensure the chimney cap (if equipped) is properly adjusted and not fully closed.
