Possible Causes
Dirty or misreading RTD probe, Loose RTD mounting, Control board PID tuning issue, Excessive pellet feed due to sticky auger
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the grill to cool before touching the temperature probe.
- Clean RTD probe: Gently scrub the probe with a non-abrasive pad to remove carbon buildup that can insulate it.
- Check probe mounting: Ensure the probe is firmly attached to the cookbox wall and not bent or touching grates.
- Inspect auger feed: Watch the auger during operation (from the hopper) to ensure it cycles on and off smoothly. If it runs too long or intermittently sticks, clean the auger and tube.
- Firmware update: Use the Weber app (if supported) to check for controller firmware updates that may improve temperature control.
- Replace RTD if needed: If temperature readings are obviously inaccurate compared to a known-good grill thermometer, replace the RTD probe.
